Nova Scotia – Festivals

Dine Around 2012, February 1-29, 2012, Various locations/prices across Halifax, Nova Scotia. Leap into Dine Around in 2012! 2012 is an extra special year for Dine Around because we have 29 days in February to taste the delectable menus from restaurants across the province. Check out the delicious 3 course dinners offered for the month of February. Nova Scotia Ice Wine Festival, February 2-12, 2012, Province-wide, locations/prices vary.  Join us for the 5th Annual Nova Scotia Icewine Festival and celebrate Nova Scotia’s internationally award-winning icewines! Sample icewine paired with local cuisine, learn how icewine is made, try your hands at pruning, or book a Winter Icewine Experience Getaway.  Browse the website for the Nova Scotia Icewine Festival for over 40 events being held as part of the celebration, and/or book an Icewine Getaway!

Savour Food & Wine Festival, Thursday, February 23, 2012, Casino Nova Scotia, 1983 Upper Water Street, $79 (+ tax). An annual showcase of restaurants, wines and beverages, Savour brings together chefs, cooks, sommeliers and other professionals to present the best in culinary Nova Scotia has to offer. Event goers will have the opportunity to visit each booth, tasting what has been prepared for them for the evening, tantalizing their tastebuds and discovering the culinary scene that is Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia – Events

Decadence, Thursday, February 2, 2012, Casino Nova Scotia, 1983 Upper Water Street, $49 (+ tax). Treat yourself to an evening of indulgence! The first hour of the evening begins by enjoying succulent pieces of cheeses, paired beautifully with different wines. Each cheese is then transformed into a beautiful dish or hors d’oeuvres, matching the paired wine yet again. The last part of the evening pairs decadent chocolate with wines, port and dessert wines. Taste the chocolate in its raw form, paired beautifully with a wine yet again, then tasting the chocolate transformed into a luscious dish or dessert. All dishes are prepared by the Culinary & Pastry Arts students of NSCC  under the tutelage of their Chef Instructors, creating amazing dishes you cannot find anywhere else. Icewine Festival Tasting, Friday, February 10, 2012, Bishop’s Cellar, 5:00-7:00pm, $15 at the door. Nova Scotia is one of the few places in the world that has the optimal growing conditions to produce ice wine. As part of the Annual Nova Scotia Ice Wine Festival, Bishop’s Cellar will be hosting a tasting displaying some of Nova Scotia’s finest. Viva Flamenco! Valentine’s Dinner & Show, Tuesday, February 14th, 7-10pm, Pipa Restaurant & Bar, $45 (+ tax). Pipa Restaurant + Bar and the dance group Viva Flamenco will bring you a night of Spanish dancing, food, and drinks. A 3-course set dinner alongside a spectacular 3-hour show by Viva Flamenco. Rare & Fine Wine Tasting, Friday, February 17, 2012, 7:00-9:30pm, Casino Nova Scotia, 1983 Upper Water Street, $99 (+ tax). An event for the wine lover that will tantalize your tastebuds. Come tantalize your tastebuds with over 20 wines never before available in Nova Scotia but for this one night! Leap Year = Weird & Wonderful Varietals Tasting, February 29, 2012, Bishop’s Cellar. Since this day only happens once every 4 years, Bishop’s Cellar thought they would celebrate by opening some of their bizarre varietals. From Arneis to Vernaccia, Bonarda to Mencia, they’ll have an array of interesting wines available to taste for FREE. Visit Bishop’s Cellar for more information.

Prince Edward Island – Events

International Potato Technology Expo, February 24-25, 2012, 9:00am-6pm/9:00am-4:00pm, Charlottetown Civic Centre, Charlottetown. This popular event has been running in Charlottetown every two years since 1992. For two decades, the International Potato Technology Expo has been bringing potato growers, from across the Maritimes and beyond, together with the leading equipment manufacturers and product solutions that potato farmers depend on and trust. The Charlottetown Civic Centre will be transformed into a Mecca for those in the potato industry and will encompass everything from seed to soil to growing to harvesting. Newfoundland & Labrador – Events

Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador, Conference and Trade Show, February 23-25, 2012, Gander. Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador’s Annual Conference and Trade Show is the largest tourism conference and trade show in the province. This annual gathering of stakeholders gives attendees an opportunity to network with leaders in the industry and gather valuable information that will affect tourism in the province. The event attracts tourism operators, suppliers, government policy makers, regulatory officials and media with an interest in tourism in NL.
