Here’s the round up for July food events in BC.  Check back often as we will update as we become aware of new events.  If you have others, please feel free to submit them to us.

Farmers’ Markets

Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market Wednesdays and Saturdays 8am-1pm at the corner of Springfield Road and Dilworth Drive Kelowna Farmers and Crafters Market

Vancouver Farmers Markets With the opening of the Kerrisdale Village Market on July 7th, all 5 Vancouver farmers’ markets will be open for the summer.  For more info visit www.eatlocal.org

Food & Beverage Events

Alfresco Winemaker’s Dinners with Joy Road Catering Every Thursday in July at God’s Mountain Estate, Penticton. $115/person. Dine alfresco and enjoy an intimate multi-course vineyard dinner with some of the Okanagan’s best vintners.  Ticket info

Summer BBQs at Bogners of Penticton Every Friday and Saturday in July.  $29/person. Enjoy one of these garden patio BBQs with a full Okanagan menu.  Much of the food comes from chef Darin Paterson’s own farm.  For reservations: Bogners of Pentiction

Canada Day Block Party and Food Cart Festival July 1st noon – 6pm, Waldorf Hotel, 1489 East Hastings, Vancouver.  A free, family friendly event featuring food from Vancouver’s top food carts along with live music.  For a complete list of food carts participating, check out this site.

Scout’s Bartender of the Year Tournament July 2, Keefer Bar 135 Keefer Street, Vancouver.  11am onwards.  Watch as 16 of BC’s best bartenders compete with blind tastings and the crafting of original cocktails and live bartending scenarios to see who comes out on top!  More info.

Julia Child Centennial Celebration July 3 – 15, and July 17 – Aug 5th at Bistro Pastis, West 4th Ave, Vancouver. $39.  Join Bistro Pastis as they celebrate Julia Child’s Centennial with special 3 course menus featuring dishes inspired by the recipes of Julia Child.  https://www.facebook.com/events/236899579761197

Okanagan Summer Wine Festival July 7th – 15th.  The Okanagan is summer in BC and this year’s festival promises not to disappoint: outdoor wine tastings, bold flavored wines, summer wine and cheese beach parties, road bike race tailgate parties in vineyard settings and Spoken Work poetry are just a few of the events that will be happening throughout the Okanagan wine region. Picnic in the Park Food Bloggers Meetup July 8th 1pm, Central Park, Burnaby.  Organized by www.bakeaholic.ca, this is a great chance to meet up with other local food bloggers.  Bring your own baked goods and food to share! For more info check out this Bakeaholic post

Outstanding in the Field  Take in the amazing Outstanding in the Field tour during its only 3 Canadian stops (all of which are in BC), this year for as part of their mission to re-connect diners to the origins of their food by honoring local farmers and food artisans.  Billed as a roving culinary adventure you’ll be sure to want to check out one of the 3 BC stops:

Slow Food Vancouver Summer Cycle Tours July 28th (Agassiz) and July 29th (Chilliwack).  Enjoy one or both of these self-guided bicycle food tours through the Fraser Valley where you will have the opportunity to explore local farms – some of which are only open to the public on these days.  Meet the farmers and learn about where your food comes from.  More info.

Orofino Winery’s 1.6 Mile Farm to Table Dinner, July 29th 5:30pm, Orofino Winery, Cawston. $140/person. Enjoy a 5 course meal and wine pairings using only the best foods provided by artisan producers from within a 1.6 mile radius of Orofino Winery as prepared by Chefs Cameron Smith and Dana Ewert of Joy Road Catering.  This event sells out every year so don’t delay purchasing tickets. Classes, Workshops and Seminars

Summer Fruit Pies July 7th, 1pm – 4pm, The London Chef, Victoria.  $90/person.  Learn basic pie crust techniques and work with seasonal fruit.  Watch and create in this interactive class and go home with a freshly baked pie.  More info.

Teen Cooking Camp Week July 9th – 13 Dirty Apron Cooking School, Vancouver. $490/person. Teens are actively engaged in the cooking process while learning new kitchen skills.  Classes include soup and knife skills, Italian Day, Comfort Foods, Japanese Day and Breakfast Day.  Tuition includes instruction, recipe book, hands on cooking, snacks and fine dining.  All materials and equipment are provided.  More info.

Pastry Apprentice for Children July 15th at the Fairmont Empress, Victoria. $100 per child.  Designed for kids under 16, they will get a personalized lesson from award winning pastry chef D’Oyen Christie in the hotel’s Pastry Shop.  Aprons and Chefs hats provided, along with home baked goodies and a baking certificate.  Class is 90mins http://www.fairmont.com/empress/vanity/epicureanjourneys

Get Your Grill On July 13 5:30pm – 9:30pm Dirty Apron Cooking School, Vancouver. $150/person.  Brush up your grilling skills for summer.  Learn about marinating, seasoning and grilling meats, seafoods and veggies in this class. More info.
