Farmers’ Markets and Market Events in Toronto

Lunchtime Office Markets at Soft Choice IT Solutions Liberty Village (NEW!) – Wednesdays, 11:30am-1:30pm.  173 Dufferin Street, one block south of King St.  Toronto Office Markets are expanding once again!  This time, the markets are moving west into the Liberty Village neighbourhood.  Local food producers and plenty of lunch options on a beautiful, outdoor terrace.

Metro Hall Farmers’ Market, year-round.  Thursdays, 8am-2pm.  During the winter (November-April), last Thursday of every month in the CBC Broadcasting Building at 250 Front Street West.  During the summer (May-October), every Thursday starting May 31st at Simcoe Place Park just outside the CBC building, and at David Pecaut Square at 221 King Street West thereafter.

Montgomery’s Inn Farmers’ Market, May 23 – December 25.  Wednesdays, 3pm-7pm.  4709 Dundas St. West, Etobicoke.  Enjoy fresh baked bread from the inn’s wood-fired oven, fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and more.  http://www.montgomerysinn.com/

North York Civic Centre Farmers’ Market, May 31 – October 25.  Thursdays, 8am-2:30pm.  5100 Yonge Street, just north of Elmwood Avenue.  The farmers’ market, with its vast array of baked goods, fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and more, takes place outdoors at Mel Lastman Square.

Pedestrian Sundays at Kensington Market, August 26.  12pm-7pm.  Kensington Market (west of Spadina Ave., eats of Bellevue Ave., south of College Street, north of Dundas Street West).  Pedestrian Sundays are back for their 9th year!  Come out and enjoy the street festivals, market vendors, street food, and more on the last Sunday of the month – car and traffic free!  Streets are closed off to car traffic during Pedestrian Sunday hours.  http://www.pskensington.ca/

Brewer’s Backyard: The Beer Jam at Evergreen Brick Works, August 12.  12pm-4pm.  550 Bayview Ave. at Koerner Gardens and Holcim Gallery.  FREE admission, cost of food and drink on-site.  $6 for beer, $6 for Fidel Gastro’s sandwiches, and $6-$7 Babi & Co. Urban Agriculture Summit, August 15 – 18.  8:30am-8:30pm on Wednesday, 8:30am-8pm on Thursday, 8:30am-9pm on Friday, and 8:30am-5pm on Saturday.  55 Gould St. at Ryerson University for daytime summit events and workshops, and various locations for evening receptions; check website for schedule details.  $50 – $349/person depending on level of participation.  Online registration will close at 5pm on August 13th!  This 4-day summit and conference devoted to food security, gardening, technology, food and business, and urban agriculture is headed to Toronto and will be jam-packed with keynotes, panels, workshops, tours, and so much more!  Hosted by FoodShare and Ryerson University, the summit delves into the social issues facing food accessibility, security, policy, innovation, and more.  http://www.urbanagsummit.org/

The Stop Community Food Centre’s Food for Change at Wychwood Barns, August 16.  601 Christie St.  $75 for the meal, $120 with wine pairings.  Hosted by The Stop Community Food Centre, Food for Change is a monthly, intimate, dining event that showcases delicious, local, sustainable food, complete with a 5-course meal prepared and cooked by Stop chefs and budding culinary talents around the city.  Proceeds from this event support The Stop’s food programs that fight hunger and promote positive change toward great accessibility to food in communities.  http://thestop.org/event/16-aug-2012
