Farmers’ Markets and Market Events in Toronto

Good Food Market in conjunction with Good Food for All Festival by The Stop Community Food Centre, September 22.  11am-3pm.  1900 Davenport Rd at the Davenport Perth Neighbourhood Centre (DPNC).  FREE.  Back for its 2nd year, the Good Food for All festival aims to bring neighbourhoods and communities together through healthy food.  Watch a marching parade, take part as a judge at the community cook-off, sample delicious food from The Stop Kitchen, shop the Good Food Market, and so much more!  This event is all about making healthy food accessible and discussing initiatives to bring good food for all.  http://thestop.org/event/22-sep-2012   

Junction Farmers’ Market (NEW!), June 2 – October 13.  Saturdays, 8:30am-12:30pm.  Green P parking lot located at 385 Pacific Ave. by Dundas Street West.  This farmers’ market is The Junction neighbourhood’s first and it’s been in the works for quite some time, so let’s help make their first year a success!  http://www.junctionmarket.ca/

Lunchtime Office Markets at Soft Choice IT Solutions Liberty Village (NEW!) – Wednesdays, 11:30am-1:30pm.  173 Dufferin Street, one block south of King St.  Toronto Office Markets are expanding once again!  This time, the markets are moving west into the Liberty Village neighbourhood.  Local food producers and plenty of lunch options on a beautiful, outdoor terrace.

Metro Hall Farmers’ Market, year-round.  Thursdays, 8am-2pm.  During the winter (November-April), last Thursday of every month in the CBC Broadcasting Building at 250 Front Street West.  During the summer (May-October), every Thursday starting May 31st at Simcoe Place Park just outside the CBC building, and at David Pecaut Square at 221 King Street West thereafter.

North York Civic Centre Farmers’ Market, May 31 – October 25.  Thursdays, 8am-2:30pm.  5100 Yonge Street, just north of Elmwood Avenue.  The farmers’ market, with its vast array of baked goods, fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and more, takes place outdoors at Mel Lastman Square.

Pedestrian Sundays at Kensington Market, September 30.  12pm-7pm.  Kensington Market (west of Spadina Ave., eats of Bellevue Ave., south of College Street, north of Dundas Street West).  Pedestrian Sundays are back for their 9th year!  Come out and enjoy the street festivals, market vendors, street food, and more on the last Sunday of the month – car and traffic free!  Streets are closed off to car traffic during Pedestrian Sunday hours.  http://www.pskensington.ca/

The Stop Community Food Centre’s Food for Change at Wychwood Barns, September 14.  601 Christie St.  Meal prices will vary, but generally expect $75 for the meal, $120 with wine pairings.  Hosted by The Stop Community Food Centre, Food for Change is a monthly, intimate, dining event that showcases delicious, local, sustainable food, complete with a 5-course meal prepared and cooked by Stop chefs and budding culinary talents around the city.  Proceeds from this event support The Stop’s food programs that fight hunger and promote positive change toward great accessibility to food in communities.

Roncesvalles Polish Festival 2012, September 15 – 16.  11am-midnight on Saturday and 11am-7pm on Sunday.  Street festival on Roncesvalles Ave. from Queen Street West to Dundas Street West.  FREE; cost of food and drink on site.  Party all weekend long in Toronto’s west end and Polish district!  Roncesvalles (dubbed Little Poland or Little Polish by some!) will be hustling and bustling with dancing, entertainment, and lots and lots of Polish food including borscht, kielbasa, pierogies, and more!  In its 7th year, the Roncesvalles festival showcases the depth and diversity of Polish culture.  http://polishfestival.ca/
