Where are you living now? Ottawa, ON
Why did you start your blog? For 24 years we moved a lot from province to province and when we arrived in Nova Scotia I did not know anyone and was a stay-at-home mom. I started blogging so that my children could have quick access to the recipes they loved and that they could have lasting memories of our meals. It did not take long for me to discover that blogging was more than that; it is a community of fantastic people.
How did you decide on your blog name? I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and when I sat down to start a blog it was only natural for me to call it: La Cuisine d’Hélène (Hélène’s Kitchen)
What do you blog about? Mainly recipes that have become favorites in my home and since that I love to bake, you will find lots of yummy desserts on my blog.
What post are you most proud of and why? I was part of the JC100 project this year and when my son was leaving for Hong Kong to study, for our last family meal I baked Reine de Saba from Julia Child that turned out really good. Just to write about it brings great memories of that meal.
Which post do you wish received more love and why?
The Caprese Salad with Bocconcini. It takes two minutes to prepare, it’s healthy and yummy!
The Nutella Swirl Pound Cake. When you write a blog post and share a recipe sometimes you ask yourself questions like: will this recipe be popular, will people want to bake this dessert. This is a popular dessert on my blog and it’s not only delicious, it looks good.
What is one (non-kitchen) gadget you can’t live without? My iPad.
What is one kitchen gadget you can’t live without? My coffee grinder, I grind my coffee beans every morning. I even bring my coffee grinder when I go camping.
Favourite food, care to share a recipe? I have to say that I fell in love with Lebanese cuisine when I was 18 yrs old and it’s still my favourite food. I also love desserts and I’d like to share a dessert that I always get rave reviews from friends and family.
What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page? I would like to teach people how to bake.
What makes your blog unique? My passion for food and life in general.
