Bakers’ Market – Oct 6 – Dec 8th, Saturdays 11am – 3pm, Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre 7646 Prince Albert Street, Vancouver. Join some of  Vancouver’s up and coming professional and home bakers as they sell their wares.  Lots of sweet treats!  More info.

Circle Craft Market – Nov 7 – 11th, Vancouver Convention Centre West, 1055 Canada Place, Vancouver.  A Vancouver Christmas institution that brings you some of the best artisans in Canada with lots of food vendors.  Tickets $12 ($10 if purchased on-line). Circle Craft Market

Smitten Kitchen Book Signing Nov 6th, 7pm. Chapters South Granville, 2505 Granville Street, Vancouver.  Meet blogger Deb Perlman from the Smitten Kitchen website as she signs copies of her new book.  More info.

An Evening of Wine and Antipasti Nov 6, 7:30pm Novo Pizzeria and Wine Bar 2118 Burrard St, Vancouver. Novo Pizzeria has partnered with Tommasi Wines for this event and the wine list is incredible, featuring 5 exquisite wines paired with some of Novo’s signature Antipasti plates and a few surprises.  More info

Smitten Kitchen Cookbook Launch and NXNW Taping – November 7, 11am, Barbara-Jo’s Books to Cooks, 1740 West 2nd, Vancouver.  Join Books For Cooks as they welcome Deb Perlman, well known blogger and author of the Smitten Kitchen Cookbook, and CBC’s North by Northwest as they interview Deb.  Deb will also do a cooking demonstration and you can purchase a signed copy of her new book. Intro to Cheesemaking Nov 7, 2-5:30pm or  6-9:30pm. UBC Farm 6182 S Campus Rd Vancouver.  $40. Join cheesemaker David Asher Rotsztain as he demonstrates and explains the techniques for making three basic styles of cheese: paneer, yogurt cheese and camembert, an aged rennet cheese. These lessons will provide a solid foundation for those interested in making cheese at home, or anyone who wants to know how their cheese is made. The workshop will emphasize a ‘natural cheesemaking’, with a focus on simple, DIY methods that are well suited to the home kitchen. David will also discuss the topics of raw milk, rennet-free cheeses and dairy ferments. At the end of the workshop, we will feast on our freshly made cheeses.  More info

Pelican Bay Fall Wine Tasting Nov 7, 5-8pm. Dockside Restaurant & Brewing Company 1253 Johnston Street, Vancouver. $25 + surcharge.  Coal Harbour Liquor Store is once again proudly presenting 16 of the finest wineries and wine distributors in BC. Sample their ranges with an emphasis on wines suited to the season. Burma: Rivers of Flavor with Naomi Duguid: November 8 & 9th multiple events.  Barbara-Jo’s Books to Cooks, 1740 West 2nd, Vancouver. Multiple events surrounding the launch of renowned food and travel writer and photographer Naomi Duguid, including a Burma dinner menu and a photographic culinary tour.  Check the website for all event details and ticket prices.

Fast Flavours with Michael Smith: November 13th – 5:30 – 7pm, Hamilton Street Grill, Yaletown, Vancouver.  $65 (including signed copy of the book) Presented by Barbara-Jo’s Books to Cooks, join Chef Michael Smith and the CBC’s Maragaret Gallagher in a lively chat while enjoying dishes from Fast Flavours.  More info

Taste of Sonoma On Tour – Nov 14th, 2-4:30pm, Sutton Place Hotel 845 Burrard St. Vancouver. A grand tasting event brought to you by Sonoma County Vintners.  Interact with Sonoma County vintners and growers.  This is a free event.  More info

Dahlia Bakery Pop-up Shop with Tom Douglas Nov 17, 11am – noon. Barbara-Jo’s Books to Cooks, 1740 West 2nd, Vancouver. $53.  Join one of Seattle’s most popular chefs, Tom Douglas as he introduces his new book, The Dahlia Bakery Cookbook and hosts a baking demo.  Take home a copy of the book and a goodie bag of Dahlia Bakery treats! Tasting Plates Vancouver – Fall Edition – Nov 21st 6pm, Beta5 413 Industrial Avenue, Vancouver.  Visit a series of restaurants and sample tasting plates throughout Vancouver’s Chinatown, Strathcona and the East Side.  Presented by Vancouver Foodster with partial proceeds going to Project Limelight.  Vancouver Foodster

Advanced Cheese Making Nov 24 6-9:30pm.  UBC Farm 6182 S Campus Rd Vancouver. $40. In this advanced workshop, you will explore many different aged and fresh cheeses. Two new classes of cheeses will be introduced: hard cheeses and goat-milk cheeses. We will examine some of the many pathways for ageing soft cheeses by demonstrating the techniques of making blue cheeses, washed rind cheeses and feta. In addition, we will be learning about whey cheeses and mozzarella. Bring your cheesy questions, and David will help you along with your cheese making adventures.  More info

St. Andrew’s & Caledonian Society of Victoria BC Holly Tea Service Saturday, Nov. 24th 11am – 3pm United Chapters Hall, 3281 Harriet Rd., Victoria (adjacent Rudd Park). $8/person at the door. Picture Perfect Foodies with Photographer Jennifer Kirk Nov 4th 2-4pm Well Seasoned, #302c – 20771, Langley By-Pass, Langley.  $55/person.  Nationally published food photographer Jennifer Kirk leads this workshop where you’ll learn the basics of metering, exposing and focusing.  Start shooting in manual mode and learn tips and tricks to get the results you want. The Brunch Bunch Nov 10, 11am-1.30pm Dirty Apron Cooking School, 540 Beatty Street Crosstown, Vancouver $95/person.  Take your weekend brunches at home to the top as you learn to make Cinnamon Brioche French Toast with Grapefruit Riesling Sabayon, and Double-Smoked Bacon Eggs Benedict smothered in Sun-Dried Tomato Hollandaise. Butter Chicken with Chef Nina Nov 18th 12pm – 2:30pm Well Seasoned, #302c – 20771, Langley By-Pass, Langley.  $55/person. Not just butter chicken! Chef Nina  will make a tasty appetizer of Prawn Masala served with fresh Naan Bread. For a main – everyone’s favorite Butter Chicken with Pilau Basmati Rice, a Relish Salad and a sweet Mango Lassi. Viva la Vegetarian: The Art of Vegetarian Cooking -  Nov 18th 5.30-9:30pm Dirty Apron Cooking School, 540 Beatty Street Crosstown, Vancouver $150/person. Explore some amazing options for cooking without meat. Starting with a caramelized Onion, Goat Cheese & Walnut Tart with Arugula Pesto followed by a sumptuous main of Artichoke, Ricotta & Pine nut Tortellini with Pan Roasted Sultanas finished with a 10 Year Old Balsamic Vinegar.
