Could YOU Survive on $26/week for food?
A BC anti-poverty group is challenging BC politicians and residents to try and survive with only $26 a week for food - the amount that most BC welfare recipients have left from the $610 they receive monthly after paying for accomodation, bus tickets and other basic necessities. The Welfare Food Challenge runs from Oct 16th - Oct 22nd in conjunction with World Poverty Day on Oct 17th. Could you do it? Well FBC member Steve Zussino from Grocery Alerts is going to give it a shot and he's inviting all of you to join him. You can follow Steve's efforts on his own blog. I am assuming that Manitoba Canola is almost completely GMO as everywhere else. This is something of grave concern to me as a food activist. I completely believe in supporting farmers and their producing organizations – but this is a line in the sand for me. I buy Canola made from the Polish seed locally that is non-GMO – and I work hard to support farmers that farm sustainably.

We work hard to support our 9,000 canola farmers in Manitoba. Each canola farmer in Manitoba and in Canada decides on what types of seeds to purchase on their farm. Great to hear that you are supporting your local canola farmer and canola oil.
