December 2012 Ontario Food Events

Here’s the round up for December food events in Ontario (outside of Toronto).  So many events were wine and food combined that we combined the two sections for easier browsing. Check back often as we will update as we become aware of new events.  If you have others, please feel free to submit them to us.

Elora Culinary Walking Tour,  Saturdays in December. 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Village Olive Grove, Elora. Walking tour with samples specially created dished at various locally owned and operated restaurants and shops while getting a bit of a history lesson. to reserve a spot.

CounterCulture Supper Club, Fridays in December. Balzac’s Coffee Roasters, Niagara-on-the-Lake. $5 at door. Dishes $15 and under. One chef, local beer and local wine. Reservations recommended. Gathering Niagara

Savour Stratford Perth County Farmer Dinner Series. Dec. 1. 8 p.m. Bijou, Stratford. $55. Chef Aaron Linely, organic farmer Ryan Bergman of Loco Fields and Ryan Weth of Wethy Mushrooms team up to present a five-course fully vegetarian menu. Farmer Dinners

Christmas Cookies at Stone Maiden Inn,  Dec. 1. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stone Maiden Inn, Stratford. $59. Make a variety of Christmas cookies with chef de cuisine Erin Delarge. Stone Maiden Inn

Wild Game Dinner, Dec. 1. 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Temagami and District Chamber of Commerce, Marten River. $35. 20th annual wild game dinner. Live entertainment.

Vineland Estates 21st annual Open House,  Dec. 1-9. Vineland Estates Winery, Vineland. Roasted chestnuts on our vine wood fired BBQ, mulled wine and hot chocolate. Vineyard tours by  carriage. Special wine tastings and case promotion wines. Live music. Vineland Estates

An Evening with Chuck Hughes, Dec. 3. 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Springridge Farm, Milton.  Free. Meet and greet and book signing with Food Network celebrity chef Chuck Hughes. Only books purchased at the event will be signed. Springridge Farm

Eating Words, Dec. 5. 7 p.m. University of Waterloo, Stratford Campus. $10. Join guest speaker, James Oseland, editor-in-chief of Saveur. A question and answer session will follow, as well as the chance to purchase signed copies of his book. Eating Words

Westboro Holiday Food Market, Dec. 9. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Westboro Masonic Hall, Westboro. Twenty-two Ottawa food artisans selling cake pops, macarons, cookies, pies, tortieres, teas, coffee, jams, chutneys, salsas, sausages, chocolates, ice creams, salad dressings and gluten free and vegan baked goods. Aging… Not Just for Wine cheese seminar, Dec. 15. 13th Street Winery, St. Catharines. $39.95. Taste how aging cheese can create complex flavours. 13th Street wines served with a selection of cave-aged cheeses. 13th Street

Scotch and Chocolate, Dec. 15. 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Foster’s Inn, Stratford. $30. Local Scotch enthusiast, Esther Brown has put together a tasting of single malt scotches that have been paired with a variety of chocolates from Rheo Thompson Candies. Scotch and Chocolate

Christlemas Faire, Dec. 16. Noon to 5 p.m. Stratus Vineyards, Niagara-on-the-Lake. Food vendors, artisanal preserves, local wine and beer. Gathering Niagara.

A Trius New Year’s Masquerade, Dec. 31. 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Trius Winery at Hillebrand, Niagara-on-the-Lake. $205. Receive a celebration mask, enjoy a four-course, communal dining experience crafted by chef Frank Dodd and paired with wines selected by winemaker Craig McDonald. Semi-formal. New Year’s Eve Dinner and After Party, Dec. 31. 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Peller Estates, Niagara-on-the-Lake. $195. Five-course tasting menu created by chef  Jason Parsons. After dinner, roast Icewine Marshmallows over the fire and enjoy live entertainment. Peller Estates
