Instagram is packed with food photos and outstanding food accounts to drool over. And we've seen a lot of lists pop up on the internet telling us which are the top Canadian foodies to follow on Instagram. They're filled with well deserving folks whose feeds will indeed make your mouth water. What we always notice is, the same names pop up on all of them - and with good reason!
But what we also know, from browsing the FBC #fbcigers hashtag on Instagram every day, is that there are a lot of absolutely stunning accounts that get missed all too often. Today we decided to share some Canadian food accounts on Instagram that are hidden gems. The only criteria was that at the time of publishing, they had to have less than 1000 followers and they had to have a strong food focus. We only had room for 15 but, we could easily have done this list three times over.
Check out these talented individuals - all FBC Members from across Canada - and the beautiful styling and photography they do!
1. Lisa Bolton (@LisaDawnBolton)
We may be a little biased but, we think regular FBC columnist, Lisa Bolton's Instagram feed (@lisadawnbolton) is one of the most beautiful out there. Based out of Surrey, BC, she showcases family focused food from scratch that's fast to cook up, but still looks stunning.
2. JoAnn Blondin (@joannblondin)
Ontario's JoAnn Blondin (@joannblondin) has a feed that focuses on wellness through food with beautiful images of gluten free, dairy free and sugar free dishes.
3. Julie & Debbie (@CooksWithCocktails)
This mother and daughter duo from BC's Fraser Valley have been flying under the radar long enough on Instagram. Like the name @CooksWithCocktails implies, you will see lots of beautifully photographed and inventive cocktails along with delicious whole food recipes.
4. My Chouchoux (@mychouchoux)
Based out of Quebec, My ChouChoux (@mychouchoux) has curated a perfectly minimalist food feed that we have fallen in love with. Just food - without the fluff.
5. A Slice of Fruit (@Elizabeth_Tharakan)
We just discovered Elizabeth (@Elizabeth_Tharakan) a few weeks ago but she has fast become one of our favourite accounts. Her dark style is in contrast to the high key trend that fills Instagram and it works!
6. Julia Konovalova (@Imagelicious)
Julia is a food photographer from Toronto and her eye for well composed and styled food images is obvious on her feed (@Imagelicious) - interspersed with the occasional behind the scenes photo or a lazy cat image!
7. Allison Day (@Allisondaycooks)
With her beautiful images and recipes of fresh food, it's no wonder that Allison has her first cookbook coming out soon. What's a mystery is why more people haven't discovered her on Instagram (@allisondaycooks)!
8. Samantha (@MyKitchenLove)
Samantha was almost left out of this roundup because we assumed by how lovely her feed is (@MyKitchenLove), that she already had more than 1000 followers! This Vancouver mom of twin toddlers (with a third little one on the way!) turns out mouthwatering dishes to feed the whole tribe.
9. Connie (@chocolateandconnie)
Like her name implies, Connie (@chocolateandconnie) from Vancouver has a feed that usually includes a lot of chocolate and sweet treats that will have your mouth watering. But, as she's currently exploring Thailand, her feed now includes delicious Asian dishes that will make you want to get a plane ticket!
10. Amy Bronee (@amybronee)
With her new book, The Canning Kitchen, Amy shares recipes and tips for canning and preserving for the home cook. You can find even more tips on her instagram account (@amybronee), plus a pie or two!
11. Nutmeg Disrupted (@redawna)
Inventive in the kitchen, Redawna from Nutmeg Disrupted (@redawna) always has something unique or delicious in her feed. Intersperse that with stunning landscape photos of her Alberta home and you have a feed we always look forward to checking out.
12. Chrissie Baker (@BusyBakerBlog)
Winnipeg's Chrissie Baker uses her feed (@BusyBakerBlog) to showcase her work at her blog, The Busy Baker, and is full of her bright, colourful dishes that are family friendly. If you're feeding a family then you need to check her out!
And of course, don't forget to follow the FBC Instagram account for more great Canadian food photography talent. And if you love food, be sure to hashtag your photos #fbcigers for a chance to be featured in our feed!
