Why did you start your blog?

As a nutrition student and a food lover at the same time, I love sharing my passion of food with others. Initially, I started the blog to share tips and nutritional information about how to make smart choices at restaurants. However, it seems like I’ve been a bit off track… However, since I travel quite often, I thought it would be nice way to document my own journey, which corresponds with the tagline of my blog “explore cultures through food discovery”.

How did you decide on your blog name?

The blog was formerly called “WANG Food”. I decided to rebrand my blog when I made a move from WordPress.com to self-hosted site early this year. I tried to think of a name that is catchy, but easy to remember. I struggled with the previous name, because I always had to spell it out for people. There aren’t that many food-related words that rhyme with my name, Eva. I decided on “Eat with Eva”, because it is easy for others to remember, and I would like the readers to “eat with” me.

What do you blog about?

I mainly blog about restaurants that I’ve been to, and would recommend. However, recently, I’ve started to post some recipes, and my readers seem to like it!

What post on your blog most encapsulates you?

The review that I did for the cookbook “The Food of Taiwan”. It is exactly what I’ve envisioned to do, which is introducing the food of home to the world. It also allowed me to understand and revisit the stories or origins of the food that I grew up with, but never truly understood the story behind it.

Which post do you wish received more love and why?

The post of Kaya toast with homemade butter, because it is, technically, the first recipe that I really took time to plan, and got really excited to share with people!

Which post’s success surprised you and why?

The “tang yuan” with sweet red bean soup. I originally wrote it because The FeedFeed messaged me for the recipe to feature on their Red Bean feed. It’s also my first recipe being featured on another site!

What’s your biggest challenge as a blogger?

Gaining popularity and constantly looking for new restaurants/contents to share with the readers. It is costly, and quite expensive, to be a restaurant blogger, and not all the restaurants that I’ve visited motivate me to blog.

Share a couple of your favourite food blogs to read. Why do you like them? 

Imma eat that - As a fellow dietitian, I love all the recipes that she shares, especially the single-serving ones. They are healthy, and easy to follow.

Lady and Pups - I love her photos, and her style of writing. It’s not the same style as me, but I enjoy reading it.

Locally, Kitchen Heals Soul - I love how Janice combines her studies in chemistry with baking. It is something that I look forward to do as well with nutrition.

Favourite food - care to share a recipe or a restaurant destination?

It’s hard to choose a favorite restaurant, but nothing beats homemade food from childhood. This mud crab sticky rice has been my favorite since I was a kid. It’s simple, yet comfy. I still request my mother to make it whenever I go home.

What are you working on next for your blog?

I am trying to do more recipes, and apply what I have learned in university, which is my initial intention: to share tips and nutritional information about how to make smart choices at restaurants.

What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?

If you have been following me on Instagram, you’ll notice that I visit cafes quite often in Montreal. However, coffee was something I hated for a long time. It is only after coming to Montreal that I started to appreciate it. Also, to the surprise of many, I am actually a very picky eater, and I avoid a lot of food.

What makes your blog unique?

At the moment, I think my photos really helped a lot in my posts, as “a photo is worth a thousand words”. However, I hope to differentiate my food blog by incorporating nutritional information and smart choices tips when dine at restaurants.

What part of the FBC site do you find most useful?

The bloggers resources! It answers my questions 90% of the time. It’s where I would go to whenever I have problems.
