FBC Featured Member: Just Crumbs | Food Bloggers of Canada

Name: Suzie Durigon

Blog name: Just Crumbs

Where were you born?  Toronto, Ontario

Where are you living now? King City, Ontario

Why did you start your blog?

Because I am a culinary instructor and I wanted to reach a broader audience (plus it’s kinda fun!!)

How did you decide on your blog name?

I wanted a catchy name and, because I love to bake, crumbs were the first thing that came to mind (and probably because they cover my kitchen in ridiculous amounts every day!)

What do you blog about?

Quick, non-fussy, unadulterated food…and making good food look great! Also, having a farm to fork mentality where I harvest the food I grow and transform it into great meals (I live on a farm and am trying to be the best “wanna-be” farmer out there…I even have a tractor!!)

What post are you most proud of and why?

I love this post (Bake if Forward Friday) because The National Post featured it in conjunction with the release of the movie Chef and because it showcases my Bake it Forward Friday initiative (giving back in the sweetest of ways!)

Which post do you wish received more love and why?

This was a post I did featuring some really yummy biscotti but also about how baking heals. I received lots of feedback but I want more people to know how awesome it is when you bake/cook for others…I really think it could change the world!

Which post’s success surprised you and why?

I can’t believe how many people have major love-ins for gluten free and vegan recipes. These are pretty awesome protein bars but I never felt love like this when I posted brownies!

What is one (non-kitchen) gadget you can’t live without?

Uuummm…I hate to admit it, but probably my cell phone. I really wasn’t hooked to it until I started blogging. Now I am so intrigued with how social media works, and I find myself constantly checking my phone to see how many people like me…shallow but true!

What is one kitchen gadget you can’t live without?

Wow…that’s a loaded question! I can think of about 36,000 things I can’t live without in my kitchen (but I could live without nice shoes…or diamonds…or fancy stuff…yup, I’m that kinda gal!). But seriously, I probably couldn’t do much without a really sharp knife!!

Favourite food, care to share a recipe?

That’s like asking what kitchen gadget I can’t live without! I love all food (I always say “if it’s not moving, I’ll try it”!) and I tend to have a sweet tooth as I am a true baker at heart and bake, pretty much, everyday. However, the older I get the more I love a really great hunk of hard cheese (hopefully sourcing something relatively local) with some of my dad’s olives (he has a small olive orchard in Italy and brings me back some every year!), served with some salami or prosciutto (again, my dad make awesome dried meats!), some crusty bread and a glass of really great wine…it doesn’t get better than that. Actually, if you throw in a bunch of really great friends, it does get better than that!

What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?

I’m just crazy-happy that I am able to “play” with food everyday…I feel like I won the “life-lottery”!

What makes your blog unique?

I’m not really sure (as I am trying hard to find my voice) but I think that my blog is unique in that I trying to educate those around me on how easy it is to eat well and get back to the table to eat and share life experiences. Our world has become so fast and we have become so busy that it is easy for people to think they don’t have time to enjoy these simple things…but it is really crucial to our well-being and I think it is life changing!
