Name: Julie Angelini
Blog name and URL: Please Pass the Ketchup http://pleasepasstheketchup.ca
Where were you born? Aylmer, Ontario
Where are you living now? Victoria, British Columbia
Why did you start your blog? I love to bake and cook and I love even more to share the food that I love with other people. But apart from that I started blogging because I knew I’d be moving soon as my husband is in the military and I wanted another way to stay in touch with everyone I care about, through my cooking.
How did you decide on your blog name? I’ve always loved ketchup and that has in the past brought on some teasing.
What do you blog about? I blog about recipes that I love, and that are usually easy to make. I also believe in trying to eat healthy in moderation, so I’ll also blog about healthy food and ingredients. On Fridays I have a series called “Cool Finds Friday” where I like to highlight recipes that I have found around the web that I think look fantastic.
What post are you most proud of and why? Tough choice, but I think I’m most proud of my Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins post simply because the pictures turned out amazing. I’m still learning a lot about photography and have a long ways to go in that respect but I think those pictures turned out the best.
Which post do you wish received more love and why? Again, tough choice but it would probably be my Amazing Brownies. If I wasn’t watching my weight I’d make them every week. They are THAT good.
Which post’s success surprised you and why? The Bailey’s White Chocolate Chip Cookies has received a lot of hits and while I know it was a delicious recipe, I didn’t think it would stand out that much among my other recipes.
What is one (non-kitchen) gadget you can’t live without? My iPad. It used to be my phone but I love the larger display of the iPad, it lets you view recipes a lot more easily. There are a lot of great, free recipe apps out there that are specifically made for the iPad.
What is one kitchen gadget you can’t live without? My stand mixer. I don’t use it all the time but for those recipes that ask for it, it’s invaluable.
Favourite food, care to share a recipe? Garlic bread! My family and friends know I’m crazy about it. My all-time favourite garlic bread recipe has to be my cheddar bay biscuits. Garlic bread can also be really simple: Slice up any type of bread. Mince a couple of cloves of garlic and let it sit in some oil for a bit. Top bread with oil and garlic mixture, add some shredded cheese and toast until cheese is melted. Delicious!
What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page? My family is German and so that tends to influence my cooking, baking AND appetite. That being said, I don’t like beer or sauerkraut. Yes, I’m weird.
What makes your blog unique? My blog is 100% me. I used to be a picky eater and I’m still working on that, but because of that you will only see recipes that I love and that I enjoy making. I think that even though my blog is just under a year old, you can already see my personal growth in the type of recipes I’m creating, the photography, and the writing style. This makes my blog unique because it becomes a lot more personal and honest, and my readers get to learn a lot about me.
