A Professional Food Blogging Gig

If you haven't already heard (it's been buzzing all over the internet since it was announced last Wednesday), Tourism Richmond is looking to fill a 1 year contract position as their official food blogger.

The gig, being referred to on Twitter as #Richmond365, is a 1 year contract with a salary of $50K.  It includes a daily stipend for your restaurant meals, a one year gym membership (omg yes... the lucky blogger will need it!) and possible apartment/living compensation (note, the last item is negotiable).  You have until March 31, 2012 to get your application in.

Sounds great doesn't it?!  We think so!  But, we're mentioning this in the news not only because it's a terrific opportunity for the right person, but because we're thrilled to see an organization that recognizes the value a blogger can bring to it's long term marketing plan.  Tourism and food go hand in hand and Tourism Richmond has stepped up to the plate with a fairly compensated package that recognizes just how much work goes into crafting a well written and photographed blog.  After the success of YVR International's 80 day airport blogger last year, we're excited to see how many more of these blogging opportunities start to pop up!  Good luck to all of you putting in applications!

Canadian Lentils Recipe Challenge

Here's one more reminder to you all about the Canadian Lentils Lentil Recipe Revelations Challenge.  The contest runs from February 6 – March 19 and you have the opportunity to create a new and unique recipe featuring lentils.  There is a $1000 cash prize for the grand prize winner and $250 Amazon giftcards up for grabs for the best recipe in each of the contest categories, excluding the grand prize winner.  Those are some generous prizes!

So, get creative and check out our Canadian Lentils Challenge post for more information.  You can also follow Canadian Lentils on Twitter and Facebook!

The 2012 Homies

Are you familiar with the site thekitchn.com, sister site of apartmentherapy?  The two are joining forces to once again award their 2012 Homie Awards to outstanding blogs in 6 categories: 3 food related and 3 home related.

Our very own Kris, from Munchin with Munchkin, is up for all three food blog awards!  She has some pretty stiff competition - you'll recognize all the names she up against. She's also the only Canadian (Kris is one of our Canadian Abroad members and currently blogs out of Texas).  So why not check out Kris' blog and give her a vote if she tickles your fancy? Congrats Kris!

Regional Administrators

Last week we mentioned we were looking for some regional admins to help the three of us out with running FBC.  Several asked for more information before you volunteer, and rightly so!

We will be looking for a representative in each of the following regions: BC, the Prairies, Toronto, Ontario (excluding Toronto), Quebec, and the Atlantic provinces.

The main areas we need help with are:

  • forum moderation and promotion
  • hosting or helping to organize regional tweetups
  • working with our event gatherers to identify local events in your region
  • general FBC cheerleading in your local food blogging community

We don't expect or want this to be an overly time consuming role.  But if you have a few hours that you can spare us once a month to help out and think you'd enjoy representing FBC in your area, please let us know at info[at]foodbloggersofcanada[dot]com.

Welcome Arla Foods

We have a new sponsor for the weekly Featured Member Blog column.  We'd like you all to welcome Arla Foods on board - we're looking forward to working with them for the rest of the year!
