Name: Beth Dunham

Blog nameBeth Dunham

Where were you born? In a small town in Missouri

Where are you living now? Halifax, Nova Scotia

Why did you start your blog?

To promote my business,  I am a professional photographer and food stylist.  The blog is a space where I am able exercise complete creative freedom doing what I love best, food photography.

How did you decide on your blog name?

I kept it simple, and just went with my name.

What do you blog about?

I post favorite seasonal recipes featuring interesting, mostly local, sometimes unusual, ingredients.  My blog tends to reflect a fascination with all things Italian, I often include travel photos to accompany my recipes. Cooking from scratch, I post techniques for making cheese, homemade pasta, crockpot stock, ice cream, a never-fail lemon curd, and even a cocktail or two.

My primary focus is on creating beautiful images of food; sometimes that involves capturing the yum factor of a recipe, other times the photographs are meant to illustrate a particular feeling or food memory.

What post are you most proud of and why?

That's a tough question, I'm proud of them all, but I'd have to say I'm probably most pleased with a two part post titled Postcards from Chianti.  These posts are personal favorites because they capture so well my memories of a magical week spent in the hills of Tuscany.  The recipes included a very old traditional Tuscan cooking technique for beans and a meatball recipe inspired by celebrity  butcher, Dario Cecchini.  Who could resist a dish called Rosemary up the bum!

Which post do you wish received more love and why?

I'd have to say my recipe for duck fat latkes and lox.  It features wonderful local ingredients from some of my favorite suppliers.  And, they were among the tastiest things I've ever made.  The recipe is paired with a local Nova Scotian sparkling wine.

Which post’s success surprised you and why?

Honestly, I can never predict whether a post is going to be popular or not, so I'm always surprised by which ones receive a lot of attention.  My recipe for Tiramisu got a bunch of hits when I first posted it, and it continues to consistently bring a lot traffic.  It is a really good recipe, but I would have expected a traditional Tiramisu recipe to get lost in the noise.

What is one (non-kitchen) gadget you can’t live without?

That would have to be my iPad/iPhone.
I wish my answer was a fancy rock climbing gizmo or something cooler, I'll have to work on that.

What is one kitchen gadget you can’t live without?

Gladys, my KitchenAid stand mixer.

Favourite food, care to share a recipe?

Steamed mussels, eaten by the sea.
I will be posting a fantastic mussel recipe soon, complete with wine pairing, stay tuned, you won't want to miss this one.

What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?

I am an expert cannonballer. Despite my diminutive size, I am able produce a truly spectacular splash.

What makes your blog unique?

The photographs.
