Each month we profile a different Canadian Food Blogger who is part of the FBC community. This month, we’re introducing Jasmine! She began her blogging journey with delicious desserts but gradually expanded her recipes to include tasty appetizers and hearty main dishes too.

Blog name: Baking On Thyme

Where were you born? Calgary, AB

Where are you living now? Calgary, AB

Why did you start your blog?

I started my blog because I needed something outside my 9–5 job and family life. Don’t get me wrong—I love my family—but I also needed a part of me to be more than just a mom and a wife. Baking and blogging gave me a creative outlet and a space to express myself.

How did you decide on your blog name?

This one’s a bit tricky! I was sitting in my kitchen, casually brainstorming names, and “Baking on Thyme” just clicked. It felt playful, memorable, and perfectly reflected my love for baking (and a little pun never hurts!).

What do you blog about?

I started blogging about desserts, but over time I branched out to appetizers and main dishes as well. Now my blog covers a variety of recipes.

Is your blog your business, your hobby or something in between?

Right now, this blog is a hobby. I work a full-time job and have a family that keeps me busy. That said, I would love to turn this blog into a business one day—it’s a passion I could see growing into something bigger.

What post on your blog most encapsulates you and why?

Reese's peanut butter ice cream.

My Homemade Reese’s Peanut Butter Ice Cream recipe most encapsulates me. I’ve always loved Reese’s chocolate, and this recipe is a fun, delicious twist on one of my favorite treats as a kid.

Which post do you wish received more love and why?

Homemade Avocado Brownies.

I wish my Homemade Avocado Brownies post received more love. It’s one of the very first recipes I wrote for my blog, and it’s still one of my favorites. There’s something special about it—it represents the start of my blogging journey and holds a lot of personal meaning for me.

Which post’s success surprised you and why?

Hamburger Macaroni casserole.

The success of my Hamburger Macaroni Casserole post really surprised me. It’s such a simple, comfort-food recipe—just a few basic ingredients—but it clearly resonated with a lot of people. I love that something so easy and nostalgic became a favorite for my readers.

What’s your biggest challenge as a blogger?

Ahhh… how much time do you have? I think my biggest challenge is staying consistent—constantly posting on social media, creating new content, and growing traffic can feel like a full-time job on top of everything else I do.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a blogger?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is not to chase every trend. I can’t keep up with them all anymore, and I’ve realized it’s much more fulfilling—and authentic—to post what I genuinely want to share.

What has been your biggest success as a blogger so far?

One of my biggest successes has been building a space where I can share my love of baking and cooking, connect with readers, despite a busy schedule.

Share a couple of your favourite food blogs to read. Why do you like them?

One of my favorite food blogs is Preppy Kitchen. I actually started baking after watching his youtube videos! I love how approachable his recipes are, and his tutorials make even complicated desserts feel doable. I also really enjoy Sally’s Baking Addiction. I love her detailed instructions and helpful tips.

What are you working on next for your blog?

I’m fairly random with my blog—one month I focus on cakes, and the next month it’s bread. Lately, I’ve been fascinated with baking bread and creating little designs on it. I’m also working on my first eBook for my readers, which will feature some of my favorite one-bowl recipes.

What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?

Baking is my creative outlet and a way to bring joy to my family and friends. I also juggle a full-time job and a busy family life, so my blog is my little passion project where I get to slow down, be creative, and connect with others who love food as much as I do.

What makes your blog unique?

I think what makes my blog unique is my randomness and authenticity. I don’t follow trends—I post what I’m passionate about, whether it’s cakes one month or creative bread designs the next. It keeps my content fun, personal, and unpredictable for my readers.

How do you cultivate a sense of community around your blog?

I cultivate community by engaging with my readers wherever I can—responding to comments, sharing tips, and encouraging them to try recipes their way.

What part of the FBC site do you find most useful?

Definitely the blogging resources. I’m still fairly new to blogging, and I often come back to FBC to read articles on Food Photography and Blogging 101.
