This is the second of a five part series for Star of the Show from Canadian Lentils. Star of the Show is a contest organized by Canadian Lentils in partnership with Chef Michael Smith.
Have you ever dreamed of having the lights shine down on you, the director yelling "Action" and being the star of your very own cooking show? Well, if you said "yes," you are definitely not alone. Canadian Lentils decided to give five Canadian food bloggers the chance to live out their dream in beautiful Prince Edward Island in Chef Michael Smith's Test Kitchen! This was truly the chance of a lifetime. Imagine cooking in a professional test kitchen surrounded by a film crew waiting to bring your recipe to life all while working directly with a 9-time cookbook author and host of multiple cooking shows.
Last month, Chef Smith combed through over 50 video submissions from aspiring hosts sharing their love of lentils, their favourite lentil dish and why they'd make for a great Star of the Show. After an exhaustive selection process, Chef Smith selected the five winners and this week those five travelled from all over Canada to PEI to become the Star of the Show!
Trudy Stone wants to help people. As the voice behind the blog Eat, Live and Play, she believes you can have it all by doing so in a mindful and thoughtful way. Trudy speaks from experience having lost 25 pounds in a healthy and manageable way. And she has turned her own journey into helping others in both mind and body with a side of play tossed in for fun!
When Trudy decided to make some changes to her eating habits, she discovered lentils and was hooked. In addition to being packed with protein and fiber, Trudy realized how full she was after eating lentil dishes which helped decrease the desire to snack between meals.
With lentils being a mainstay in her soups and stews, she decided to give them a whirl in baked goods. After a couple of attempts, Trudy hit on a puree of red lentils that added all the moisture needed for a treat that would fool even those with a big sweet tooth, like her husband! Enter...Coconut Chocolate Chip Lentil Blondies.
According to Trudy, her Coconut Chocolate Chip Lentil Blondies are perfectly moist, full of chocolate goodness with a sweet crunch from the coconut. And she was right! She had the entire crew drooling with her descriptions so when it was finally time to try the blondies, there were a lot of "mmmmm" happening on the set which is always a great sign!
And oh yes, Chef Smith told Trudy she was a Rockstar in the kitchen and in front of the camera today! That doesn't happen every day!
Stay tuned for Trudy's Star of the Show cooking video in June and in the meantime, you can enjoy your very own Coconut Chocolate Chip Lentil Blondies!
If you missed it yesterday, Adam Hearn of Kook Channel was the first Star of the Show with three more to go!
