As part of FBC's 5th anniversary we're sharing a special 24-day Holiday Countdown from December 1st to the 24th. We're going back in time to reconnect with some very special FBC Members. These Canadian food bloggers were among the very first FBCers to be showcased in our Friday Featured Blogger series that still runs today (we've featured almost 250 bloggers in five years!).

How has your blog evolved over the past five years?
I spent most of the first five years of my blog figuring myself out as a blogger. I wrote about anything and everything, while my audience clearly wanted a more specific type of post. It took me years to accept it, but now I realize that having a narrower focus can be beneficial across the board.
What’s your favourite holiday tradition?
Cooking and baking traditional dishes with my mom in early December. In one day, we’ll get through several of our family’s classic recipes and store them so they’re all set and ready to go when the holidays roll around. This is not a day during which I reinvent, modernize, photograph, and style; rather a day when I reflect and just enjoy what made me fall in love with food in the first place.

These cute Squash and Clementine Cupcakes with Maple Swiss Meringue Buttercream are a perfect combination of where I’m coming from —and where I’m at now, as a baker.
What are the must-have staples in your holiday pantry?
- Maple syrup — Cans and cans of it!
- Clementines — Both to eat them as snack and to bake and cook with them
- Lactose-Free cream — A life-saver for the lactose-intolerant dessert lover that I am.
