Each month we profile a different Canadian Food Blogger who is part of the FBC community. This month, we meet Symone and Chantel, dietitians who share quick, approachable, and easy meals.

Name: Symone & Chantel Moodoo

Blog name IG: double.dose.of.vitamin.c

Where were you born?

We were born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada. Our parents are from the Caribbean so we were fortunate enough to grow up in a multi-cultural household which definitely influenced our love for food and cooking.

Why did you start your blog?

We started our IG back in 2020 at the beginning of COVID lockdown. Being registered dietitians and foodies, we wanted an avenue where we could continue to share our love for food along with reputable nutrition information with others.

How did you decide on your blog name?

The name is a play on the fact that we are twin sisters and registered dietitians

What do you blog about?

We want to help breakdown the misconception that healthy foods are bland and boring.

We want to show others that healthy eating can be delicious, it doesn’t have to be an either-or situation, meals can be both nutritious and satisfying.

Is your blog your business, your hobby or something in between?

Our IG is more of a hobby/passion project. Outside of Double Dose of Vitamin C we are both employed as registered dietitians working in retail, community and education.

What post on your blog most encapsulates you and why?

Photos of food.

You can find a bit of us in each post we share on IG. Whether it is sharing food traditions and recipes we grew up on or providing meal ideas and balanced eating inspo, we really try to be intentional with what we share.

Which post do you wish received more love and why?

Chipotle ranch black bean fiesta salad cups.

There are SO many recipes and infographics that we feel should have gained more traction but one recent post we wished received more love would be the salad cups that we made in collaboration with Food bloggers. It’s fresh, fun and everything you look for in a satisfying, nourishing meal. It’s redefining the word salad and everything we are used to viewing them to be. They are original and tasty and believe that if more people saw it, they would love it just as much!

Which post’s success surprised you and why?

Guacamole with chips.

Probably the “clean out your fridge” post where we threw whatever ingredients we had laying around in the fridge and freezer into one delicious and nutrient-packed meal. It was leftover veggies, hard-boiled eggs and ranch dressing paired with wonton wrappers that we cut and baked for chips and it was completely random but it worked really well together.

What’s your biggest challenge as a blogger?

Imposter syndrome - feeling like whatever we put out will never really be good enough or warrant the attention of our target audience. There are so many talented individuals creating and sharing content everyday so sometimes it’s hard not to compare ourselves with others in the field.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a blogger?

Stay true to who you are as a blogger/creator. Everyone brings a uniqueness to their content and that is what sets you aside – in a good way – from others. There could be 10 creators who share essentially the same message but it’s how you convey that info to others in your unique way either though photography, written words, videography etc. that makes your content original and beautiful.

What has been your biggest success as a blogger so far?

When we receive DMs of people trying out our recipes or taking the time to leave messages on how we are helping them on their healthy eating journey.

Share a couple of your favourite food blogs to read. Why do you like them? (include URLs).

  1. Food Light
  2. Orchids and Sweet Tea

Both blogs offer a wealth of knowledge in both food photography and cooking. We are constantly learning from these creators and many others and we are so fortunate to be able to connect with many talented individuals in the felid either virtually or IRL!

What are you working on next for your blog?

We are about to start a new series where we take single food items/ingredients and look at ways we can add to it to either increase the nutrition or enhance the overall enjoyment to ensure a more filling & satisfying meal/snack!

Our goal is to provide new ideas to others who may be struggling with ways on how to add balance to meals and snacks

What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?

We love gardening! Every spring/summer we love growing and cultivating our own veggies and herbs that we will later use in our recipes we share on social media. There’s something about gardening that is therapeutic. Whether it’s reaping the benefits of what we’ve planted or maybe it’s simply spending time outdoors under the warm sun, it’s one thing we always look forward to each year.

What makes your blog unique?

We are pretty basic when it comes to cooking and the recipes we share. We don’t own a lot of the fancy equipment (i.e. air fryers, kitchen gadgets like veggie choppers, etc.) so everything we make, utilizes the standard stove, oven and toaster.

How do you cultivate a sense of community around your blog?

We are always trying to find new ways to connect with our audience. We have a mailing list that individuals can subscribe to where we share nutrition tips. In addition, we hold regular polls on IG to gauge content interest and topics our audience wants to see/learn more of.

What part of the FBC site do you find most useful?

We are huge fans of FBC’s blogging resources! You can find a lot of helpful and useful materials uploaded to the website. We are constantly learning and referring back to it for inspo. We actually have it pinned to favourites! Highly recommend checking it out to anyone starting a blog or in need of some amazing inspiration!
