National BBQ Day 2013

Meal Exchange is searching for delicious BBQ recipes for the National BBQ Day site

Who are we?

Meal Exchange is a national youth-driven, registered charity that engages, educates and mobilizes youth to work with their communities to alleviate hunger locally, achieve food security, and develop solutions that attain just and sustainable food systems.

We are very excited to be working with FBC on our annual National BBQ Day event this year!

What is National BBQ Day?

Hundreds of grills across Canada will be fired up on July 13, 2013 in support of Meal Exchange’s fourth annual National BBQ Day (www.nationalbbqday.ca), a backyard celebration of local food. The first and only national event aimed at raising the profile of locally sourced foods, National BBQ Day encourages Canadians to host a BBQ in their own backyard with family and friends, using as much local food as possible. Participants can register their event on the National BBQ Day website and are urged to share their National BBQ Day experience through social media (#NationalBBQDay) to win prizes and raise awareness of local foods available and where they got them.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for bloggers from across Canada interested in submitting a recipe to be featured on the National BBQ Day blog (www.nationalbbqday.ca/blog), as part of a “Food Bloggers of Canada Recipe Series” leading up to the event. Specifically, we are looking for BBQ recipes that use as much local food as possible, since the event is all about celebrating local food across Canada. Recipes (carnivorous or vegetarian) can be new or previously published; they just have to be delicious!

How does it work?

1. Send a new recipe or link to your previously published BBQ recipe post and an image of the dish to alex@mealexchange.com preferably by Thursday, June 20, 2013, however we will keep submissions open until Monday, July 1, 2013 depending on the number of submissions we receive. We will be in touch to co-ordinate when blogs will be posted so that posts are rolled out succinctly with the National BBQ Day blog.  New posts should include a link back to http://www.nationalbbqday.ca.

2. Meal Exchange will upload an image and description of the dish to the National BBQ Day blog and link readers to your blog for the actual recipe. We will be promoting each post through our various networks to increase exposure of each post.

3. The plan is to post a recipe every Friday, starting June 21st, however depending on the number of responses we receive, we may post more than one recipe a week.

Don’t have a recipe to submit?

Register to host your own BBQ at www.nationalbbqday.ca and share your experience online! As the event’s focus is on uniting Canadians across the nation through social media in support of local food and local farmers, we hope that you will join us on July 13th for this unique culinary event.
