brought to you by Janes Family Foods

Hello and happy Monday everyone!  We've got lots for you today so let's get to it.

A Nut Free Challenge

One of our members, Mama B, who writes My Edible Journey, is celebrating her 40th birthday and is doing so with a cause near and dear to her: nut allergies.  By using her birthday as an opportunity to help others, she's attempting to donate 40 jars of a school-safe, nut free spread to her local food bank.  Nut-free spreads aren't cheap and for families that rely on the food bank to help them, they can be next to impossible to afford.  She's hoping that all of you who are able will try to donate one jar of school-safe, nut free spread to your local food bank as well - you can read all the details here in her post.

Win a Trip to FBC 2013 with Manitoba Canola Growers

We announced it last week but we're thrilled that Manitoba Canola Growers is giving away TWO trips to FBC 2013 next April to the winners of their exclusive Members Only cookie contest.  Two winners, one from Manitoba and one from elsewhere in Canada, will each win one all expenses paid trip to FBC 2013.  The prize includes airfare, conference pass, accommodation and meals.  Get your thinking caps on and get those ovens warm!  We'll look forward to seeing our winners in April!

Halloween Recipe Roundup

Have you got a great Halloween recipe?  A scary treat?  Or a spooky appetizer?  Send us your links and we'll feature your recipe in our special Halloween Recipe Roundup on October 31st.  We'll include as many as we can - all you need to do is send us your link and a photo of your recipe that's 620px wide to info@foodbloggersofcanada.com by Friday, Oct 26th!

Flickr 366

Our poor Photo a Day project is losing some steam.  Back in January, quite a few of our members joined our Flickr 366 Photo a Day group and faithfully shared their photos.  We share a photo every week here on the news.  But lately, it seems we're down to only a handful of contributors.  If you've always wanted to do a photo a day project, please come and join in! You don't need to have started on January 1st.  It's something you can start any day of the year.  And photos don't have to be about food.  Just pick up your camera - point and shoot, DSLR, smart phone - and take a photo and upload it to the group!

Cook Molecular with Chef John Placko

A quick reminder to our Toronto area members, we have an exclusive opportunity for you to attend an interactive blogger event with Molecular Gastronomy Chef John Placko at Nella Cucina on Wednesday Oct 24th.  The event is presented by USA Rice Federation.  If you're interested in attending, please check out our Member's Only post on the event.  You must RSVP. (you will need to log-in to read the post)

New Members

A fantastic crop of new members this week - we hope you're all going to join in our Canola contest for a trip to the FBC 2013 Conference next April!

All the way from Portugal, via BC,  we're happy to welcome Po-Yi, author of Crumbs And Kernels as our newest Canadian Abroad member!

And welcome to our newest business member, Ellen from Manitoba Canola Grower's Association.  You can find her at the Canola recipe blog.

And remember, if you have anything you’d like to share with your fellow members in the news, please let us know about it.  To have your submission appear in a Monday news post the deadline is Fridays at 5pm Pacific time.  You can send your submissions directly to Melissa.

As always,

Melissa, Mardi and Ethan
