Every week we pull together some great Canadian recipes from Canadian food bloggers around the web featuring one main ingredient or dish. This week we're featuring an ingredient you either love... or hate: cilantro!

Collage of recipes using cilantro

Cilantro is an ingredient that can cause a lot of debate. You either love it and can't get enough or, you can't stand it and won't eat anything that it touches!

Did you know that some people may have a genetic predisposition where cilantro tastes like soap to them? But for those of us who don't taste soap when we eat cilantro, we have 18 cilantro recipes just for you!

You may hear cilantro also referred to as coriander. Usually, in recipes, cilantro refers to the fresh, bright green leaves of the herb and coriander refers to the seeds, which are often toasted and ground to be used as a spice. It's one of the few plants that qualifies as both a herb and a spice!

Cilantro and coriander are great in dressing and dips, and as you'll see, we have lots of those. But it's also a key ingredient in a lot of Indian dishes as well as pairing well with chicken and adding a fresh flavour to salsa.

You can learn all about cilantro and coriander as a herb and spice here, including how to grow your own and all the different applications it has.

I love cilantro. I know not everyone has a taste for it, but I think it complements several dishes very well. Especially in Mexican food. ๐Ÿ™‚ That Rhubard Salsa sounds very interesting! I’m trying to think about how the 2 distinct tastes would go together… cilantro and rhubard. I’m going to try it, because I love both. ๐Ÿ™‚
