Name: Laureen King
Blog name: Art and the Kitchen
Where were you born? wonderful Humboldt, Saskatchewan
Where are you living now? St Albert, Alberta
Why did you start your blog?
My son moved away to attend University and had no clue how to cook so he asked me to start a blog with family favourite recipes. It kind of expanded from there; he’s now become an amazing cook.
How did you decide on your blog name?
In addition to cooking I also love to paint and craft. I have a studio in my house, my sanctuary where I love to go to create while listening to old vinyl records on my 1976 stereo. My blog name is a combo of two things I love - art and cooking.
What do you blog about?
I mostly blog about recipes I’ve made but occasionally throw in some of my art, gardening, and photography.
What post are you most proud of and why?

I am most proud of my Fuel To Go Muffins. I’ve been making these for over 10 years now. I originally came up with the recipe for my son. He has been competing in Track and Field since he was 10 years old, and he’s always hungry. These muffins are LOADED with all kinds of good stuff. They are a favourite amongst his Track Team, the University of Calgary Dinos.
Which post do you wish received more love and why?

My Fuel To Go Protein Bars – a fantastic tasting homemade Protein Bar that is made with ingredients you can pronounce!
Which post’s success surprised you and why?

My Dieter’s Dream Water- why it surprised me, I can’t believe how much traffic a recipe that is simply flavoured water, can get so much love.
What is one (non-kitchen) gadget you can’t live without?
My camera, it was the first large investment I made for my blog.
What is one kitchen gadget you can’t live without?
My meat thermometer! I have an incredible fear of giving someone food poisoning by under-cooking.
Favourite food, care to share a recipe?
I love any kind of soup, especially hearty ones that you can serve for dinner with some fresh bread. This is my recipe for Ham & Bean Soup.
What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?
I love old stuff like barns, houses, rusted machinery and of course my husband.
What makes your blog unique?
Tough question. I don’t really think my blog is unique, its just a simple blog of recipes my family eats from homestyle to trying my hand at gourmet.
