Name: Liliya Tychshenko
Blog name: Gastro Senses
Where were you born? Zaporizhia, Ukraine
Where are you living now? Toronto, Canada
Why did you start your blog?
I wanted to have my own creative place, where I could share my passion for food with other people.
How did you decide on your blog name?
This blog is all about my everyday gastronomy adventures therefore Gastro Senses.
What do you blog about?
I blog about yummy, healthy and easy recipes with step by step cooking instructions and tasty photos.
My husband and I both originated from eastern european families of fantastic cooks and are here to share generations of homemade family-friendly Russian and Ukrainian recipes as well as our own knowledge of favorite dishes from around the world with bits of personal life.
What post on your blog most encapsulates you?

There couldn’t be a better post than a post about my last visit to my homeland. It’s all about places that are near and dear to my heart, family and of course delicious food that I grew up with.
Which post do you wish received more love and why?

Oh, I wish I could just post a link to a whole Eastern European recipes category from the blog, but I guess the recent one I posted could get more love. It’s the recipe for classic savory fried pirozhki – fluffy and soft pastries with golden fried exterior and a savory meat filling.
Which post’s success surprised you and why?

The post about Nutella Cookies. I mean, I knew people like cookies and Nutella, but it’s one of the older posts which surprisingly got the most attention.
What’s your biggest challenge as a blogger?
Eating all the leftovers 🙂 Thankfully, it’s not too difficult to find great homes for the desserts – usually our family, friends, and coworkers are willing to support with that!
Share a couple of your favourite food blogs to read. Why do you like them?
I like these two other fellow Russian bloggers - fellow FBC Member Vikalinka and also Natasha's Kitchen for their beautiful photography and homeland recipes.
Favourite food - care to share a recipe or a restaurant destination?
I have a long list of “favorite things ever” — mostly involving chocolate, melted cheese and bacon.
What are you working on next for your blog?
Video recipes is number one on the radar.
What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?
In the beginning of 2015 I quit 9-5 office job to grow my passion for food and started this wonderful food blog. I was working in a real estate industry as an accountant for one of the largest commercial real estate companies in Toronto.
I’ve spent my working days calculating commission payroll, taxes and reporting on several conflicting deadlines. I liked my job. It all seemed perfect at the beginning – the downtown office, a prestige company and a promising career path in accounting. But after several years I couldn’t see myself dedicating my life to calculators and numbers, routine schedule and the daily boring paperwork anymore. I was sitting in an office and dreaming about recipes I could have been creating for you guys! Gastro Senses started as a fun project a month before I quit my full time job and grew in so much more!
What makes your blog unique?
The longer I blog, the more I realize how much I have to be thankful for. Most of all, I give thanks to God. He is the one who gave me the ability for my cooking, photographing and writing. It's my own unique way to express the passion for food. I also am amazed that I never run out of ideas, and for that, I am extremely thankful for, because I realize that is such a blessing.
What part of the FBC site do you find most useful?
Thank you so much for the resources page! So much helpful information was extracted from this page over the life of my blog.
