Name: Katherine Snyman

Blog name: Love In My Oven

Where were you born? Red Deer, Alberta

Where are you living now? Calgary, Alberta

Why did you start your blog?

I always loved food and reading food blogs, and when I was pregnant with my second child I came up with the idea to pursue my passion for food while being at home with my children.

How did you decide on your blog name?

It was a LOT of searching and thinking. Ultimately, I came up with a name that explained my passion for cooking for my family. There is always love in MY oven! 😉

What do you blog about?

A little bit of everything, but mostly easy and healthy family-friendly meals, snacks and desserts, as well as some cocktails!

Is your blog your business, your hobby or something in between?

Right now it’s in between. I started it more as a hobby but I’ve definitely been treating it more like a business in the past year.

What post on your blog most encapsulates you and why?

Red Thai Prawn Curry with Cilantro-Lime Cauliflower Rice! I chose this one because it’s one of my all-time favourite meals. I LOVE Thai food. I also love trying alternative ways of eating, like low-carb cauliflower rice.

Which post do you wish received more love and why?

Green Monster Baked Donuts. I picked this recipe because I make it quite a lot for my kids. It’s a way to give them a fun treat that they’re excited about, with a whole lot of goodness too!

Which post’s success surprised you and why?

Healthy Smash Cake. This post is my most popular, and it still surprises me! I created it on a bit of a whim, mostly just as part of celebrating my son’s 1st birthday. It has really taken off!

What’s your biggest challenge as a blogger?

Finding the time to do everything, and balancing the work with my home life as a stay at home Mom!

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned as a blogger?

SEO and actually doing keyword research before creating/writing a post. I didn’t bother with it at first with the blog but I really regret that now!

What has been your biggest success as a blogger so far?

Being approved by Mediavine for ads on my blog! It’s exciting to actually make some money from what initially started as a hobby.

Share a couple of your favourite food blogs to read. Why do you like them?

The Itsy Bitsy Kitchen - Kelsie is hilarious, and I always enjoy reading her posts. We have a lot in common!

How Sweet Eats - I love Jessica’s writing style and look forward to her recipes, they’re always so creative and pretty!

Favourite food - care to share a recipe or a restaurant destination?

My favourite food is definitely Thai food. There is an amazing Thai restaurant in Calgary (Thai Chili Club) that my husband and I love to visit. My favourite Thai recipe on the blog is definitely the Red Thai Prawn Curry (same as above).

What are you working on next for your blog?

Seasonal recipes, and trying to get a few more videos under my belt!

What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page?

Yikes, my About Me really needs to be updated! I now have a total of 3 children vs 2!

What makes your blog unique?

I think the blog is unique in that it doesn’t have one specific focus, and there’s something for everyone. It’s perfect for people looking to experiment with foods, but they don’t want to be overwhelmed!

How do you cultivate a sense of community around your blog?

I try to stay on top of reading the posts of some fellow blogging friends, and provide comments to them while answering their comments on my blog!

What part of the FBC site do you find most useful?

Blogging Resources! When I don’t know what something is or I’m looking for some information on a specific topic I often reference these resources.
