Name: Jenny

Blog name and URL: The Brunette Baker http://thebrunettebaker.blogspot.ca/

Where were you born? I was born in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania in the
US.

Where are you living now? I live in beautiful Burlington, Ontario

Why did you start your blog? I started my blog for the same reason many bloggers probably started theirs - to share recipes and talents. I really wanted to start a recipe journal for my kids with photos and step-by-step instructions on how to make the sweet things we love; a way to share tips and techniques I've learned along the way, if you will. My mom has made some incredible creations over the years, but I can't tell you how many times I've asked her to 'show me this' or 'how did you do that' and she couldn't remember the little things she did to make something that was good into something truly fantastic. I wanted to give my kids a reference they could go back to time and time again.

How did you decide on your blog name? I wanted something that would say what my blog was about and something that is predominately me. I’m brunette and I love to bake, therefore, The Brunette Baker was born.

What do you blog about? Sweets, treats, and desserts.

What post are you most proud of and why? It's the Pots de Crème post. I'm a pretty private person in general. This post was one that helped me step out of my comfort zone and let people know a bit more about the girl behind the blog. After that, it got easier to open up and write about things going on around and with me.

Which post do you wish received more love and why? That's a tough one. If I had to choose, I would go with my Cracker Jack Cupcakes. It was a cupcake I spent hours in the kitchen perfecting – it became a labour of love for me. My poor family ate peanut butter cupcakes for days. I was so proud of the final result. But, like anything in life, when one invests time and energy to produce something amazing and only a few turn up for the show, it's a bit deflating.

Which post’s success surprised you and why? The Chocolate Blackout Cake I made. It went viral in like 12 hours. It's also the post that got more hits in one day than most of the posts did in the 2 years I've been blogging put together.

What is one (non-kitchen) gadget you can’t live without? My Dustbuster. Without a doubt.

What is one kitchen gadget you can’t live without? My mixer.

Favourite food, care to share a recipe? This is always a tough question for a foodie. I don't have one in particular, per se, but I absolutely love Mexican food. I could eat it every day.

What else should we know about you that may or not be in your “About Me” page? Unfortunately, I don’t have anything written in that part of my blog. Oops. I like to incorporate bits of me and my personality in each post. I will get there soon enough, so watch this space.

What makes your blog unique? I tend to write about everything but the treat showcased. I’ll talk about something funny that happened to me on the way to the grocery store or a crazy holiday my family and I recently took, things of that nature. My treats do get spoken of, but it’s rare they are centre stage. My love of food burns like the flames of a thousand suns and I can talk of it all day, so it would be VERY easy for me to get long-winded and lose the attention of the reader. Not everyone shares the passions of a foodie; some people want to get in and get out, but I want people to visit my blog again and again, so for me, it’s important to lure them in with delicious treats and engage them with a story as well.
