Good Monday everybody!
This week's news is mainly a mix of reminders on some of the events we have happening right now but before we get to those, there are two important things we need to mention!
A Big Move
First of all, as many of you may already know, one of our trio, Ethan, has just up and moved across the country! Just like that! Well, not exactly, just like that... Ethan accepted a position with the BC Lions last week and had to report to work in Vancouver two days later (for the biggest weekend in the CFL season!).
While the three of us have known this was a possibility for a while now, I don't think any of us expected things to move so quickly once a decision had been made. So, we ask that you bare with us over the next week as we shift some duties around until Ethan can get himself settled in his new job, new city and new digs. And, while Mardi loses custody of E in Toronto, I gain custody of him here in Vancouver and fortunately, we don't have to add a third time zone to the mix!
A Big Thanks
On that note, now seems like an even more important time for the three of us to express our appreciation for the great group of volunteers who help us out every month gathering the event information for our event listings. They take a big chunk of work off of our plates and we can't thank them enough. So, we'd like to give a big shout out to Mary Sheridan, Michelle Peters-Jones, Debra Wong, Tiffany Mayer, Janice Lawandi, Michelle Little, Aimee White and Joy Farrell-Grove for helping us out. Thank you all very much!
And a big thank you to everyone who has emailed us with an event to add to the lists! We would also like to mention that if you are running a food event or teaching a food related class (and by food, we mean beverage as well), let us know - we'd love to add it to our listings!
Holiday Gift Guide
We're still looking for your submissions to our Holiday Gift Guide. You have until November 30th (Wednesday) to get them in to us. And we'll be picking 3 random entries from all the submissions to win one of three great prize packs provided by Trudeau Canada. The Holiday Guide will be up the week of December 5th with lots of time still left for shopping! For all the details on the prizes and how to submit your gift idea, you can check out this earlier issue of the News.
Mushroom Mania
And what is a better helping hand with your holiday gift shopping than a gift card to the store of your choice? Well, that's what you can win with Mushrooms Canada, in their first exclusive contest for FBC members. There are three prizes available:
- 1st place: $150 GC to the store of your choice
- 2nd place: $100 GC to the store of your choice
- 3rd place: $50 GC to the store of your choice
Entry is via the forum where Mardi has posted all the details. You have until December 12th to submit your entry!
There seemed to be a bit of concern on Twitter earlier this week that you were being judged on the quality of your photograph. Mushrooms isn't looking for professional photographs - they just want to see how you physically present the dish (plating) as opposed to how talented a photographer you are! So don't let your photography skills slow you down from entering!
