We have some member news to share this week - lots of good things happening.
Start From Scratch Fundraiser
Dan Clapson from Dan's Good Side and Jacinthe Koddo from Food With Presence run the successful Start From Scratch program in Calgary. Start From Scratch is a non-profit program for university students that teaches them the basics of cooking, at no charge. As you can imagine, a program like that relies on some serious fundraising so this June 21st, 8pm at Casel Marche, they are holding the first ever Start From Scratch Summer Social.
Six Calgary chefs will be paired up with six Calgary bloggers, including FBC's Stephanie Eddy (Clockwork Lemon), Vincci Tsui (Ceci n’est pas un food blog), Michelle Maingat (YumYumYummers) and Stephanie Arsenault (Global Dish), to create some tasty dishes with specially chosen wine pairings. If you're in the Calgary area this will be a great night and all proceeds go to the Start From Scratch program and help them expand this worthwhile program into other parts of Western Canada this fall. More info and ticket purchases.
Toronto Life Magazine
Deb Wong from Ate by Ate has been published as a photographer in Toronto Life Magazine's "Neighbourhoods" special edition. You can find Deb's photo on page 16 of the issue - her poached egg and salmon photo is from L'Espresso Bar Mercurio and was used as part of their feature on Adrienne Clarkson's favourite spots in Toronto. If you're in the greater Toronto area be sure to pick up a copy and check it out. Congrats Deb!
Okanagan Food and Wine Writers' Workshop
The Okanagan Food and Wine Writers' Workshop is once again happening this June 12-15 in beautiful Kelowna, BC, - the heart of BC wine country. FBC's Julie Van Rosendaal (Dinner with Julie), a four time cookbook author, will be a guest instructor at the event, hosting a professional development workshop on Pitching and Writing Cookbooks and Food Features. The entire event has some excellent workshops for those of you looking to polish your food and wine writing skills and there are a few spots still left.
Vancouver's Best Mom Bloggers
Emily Wight from Well Fed, Flat Broke, has been nominated as one of Vancouver's Best Mom Bloggers by Vancouver Mom. If you are a fan of Emily's sense of humor (as I am) and would like to give her a vote you can right here! Voting closes today though so you'll have to be quick. Best of luck Emily!
A Sweet Members Only Treat
We have a sweet treat for members in our Members Only section (you will need to log-in) this week. An offer from Cacao Barry Chocolate to try some of their premium baking chocolates - 1kg to be exact. This is an $18-$29 value depending on the retailer. Check out the offer details. I had a chance to try some Cacoa Barry at Eat Vancouver on the weekend and it was excellent quality chocolate.
Eat In Eat Out Magazine
The new summer issue of Eat In Eat Out Magazine is set for release tomorrow. We'll have a preview post for you tomorrow morning so be sure to check it out and see all the FBC members who've contributed to this fun quarterly Canadian food magazine!
