Food Trends TV: How Eggs Got Cracking

There are very few trending foods that most aware food people don’t know about; however, if I had to identify one, it would be eggs. How many of us realize that we’re eating about 5 dozen more eggs per person per year than we did 20 years ago?

This example supports my belief that if you’re going to track trends, you need to be reading statistics. If it weren’t for research published by Stats Canada, the USDA and various egg marketing boards and associations, I never would have realized how much egg consumption has grown or had reason to think about what caused us to make this dietary change.

You may say ‘who cares?’ about these hidden trends, but they’re important to study so that you can plan blog content, invent new recipes or develop food products that people really want and will use. It’s not enough to just walk around grocery stores and attend trade shows if you want to have a full picture of the consumer behaviour that affects the food business.

Dana McCauley is a seasoned marketing executive with extensive experience in all facets of the food business and a track record of taking ideas from concept to kitchen to commercialization. Recently Dana launched a YouTube channel called Food Trends TV. Weekly on Food Trends TV she examines current food trends in her own original videos; daily she curates great quality food trend content created by others in the Playlist section.
