FBC in Kelowna
This past weekend, FBC had the privilege of working with Tourism Kelowna to take a group of FBC Members to experience the farm to table culture of the BC's Okanagan region. From L to R: Dee from Gastrofork, Sean from Flavortown Adventures, Mardi from eat.live.travel.write, Ethan from FBC, Mijune from Follow Me Foodie and Stephanie from Global Dish.

Lots of updates and reminders for everyone this week as we go tumbling into June (how did that happen so fast?!)

Grilling Recipe Roundup

A quick reminder that today is the deadline to get your links in for the Grilling Recipe Roundup that we'll be running on the site next week.  You can read the submission details here.

New FBC Columns

We've launched three new columns in the past week.  If you missed Kitchen Geekery with Janice Lawandi you'll want to check it out.  Jan is going to be giving us monthly kitchen tips and sharing some of the science behind them.   We also launched our first FBC Weekly Menu Plan yesterday.  This is a weekly feature we're testing out through June but so far the results look good!

And starting today we'll be checking in once a month with  The Food Gays as they start the process of monetizing their blog.  They'll be publishing a monthly income report and we thought it would be fun to follow along with a Canadian blog that's going through the process.

The FBC Facebook Forum Group

We've made some changes to our FBC Facebook Group after getting lots of feedback.  The FBC Member Forum group will now just be for  discussions surrounding blogging, networking, small business and the like.  And we've opened a new Facebook group just for giveaways, linkups, group pinterest boards and such.  If you are an FBC member (but not a brand) and would like an invite, click on the link for either group and request to join!

The hot topics in our FBC Facebook Forum Group this week:

  • Ahalogy for Pinterest
  • getting paid for sponsored content
  • discussing the Vice column on a Chef's perspective of behaviour by food bloggers in restaurants

Tasty Turkey Twitter Party - June 11th

We had SUCH a great time at our FBC twitter party last week (thank you to all of you who turned out - we trended nationally for most of the party!) that we're looking forward to doing it again with Tasty Turkey next Wednesday! If you haven't already RSVP'd you're going to want to - we're going to be talking turkey - grilling turkey.  So bring your best turkey grilling ideas, get ready for some chatting and of course... prizes!  But you've gotta RSVP to join in!

FBC2014 Updates - Speakers & Sessions

If you missed it last week we announced that Ashley Rodriguez of Not Without Salt is joining our FBC2014 speaker lineup.  We also announced our full FBC2014 session lineup for the weekend so you can see all that will be covered during the conference.  We'll still be adding some sponsors and a few other surprises over the next four months and we're pretty excited!

And while our Early Bird discount has expired, we have reached 70% capacity for the conference with 4 months left to go.  Our pre-con workshop with Matt & Adam has sold out.  The Dianne Jacob pre-con writing workshop has 4 spots left and we fully expect to sell out the conference itself.  If this event is on your watchlist, don't leave it too late to get a ticket!

New Members

We're very happy to extend a warm welcome to all our new members this week!  You all helped put us over the 1400 member mark!

New Business Members

And remember, if you have anything you’d like to share with your fellow members in the news, please let us know about it.  To have your submission appear in a Monday news post, the deadline is Friday at 5pm Pacific time.  You can send your 3-4 sentence submissions directly to Melissa and include any relevant links.

As always,

Melissa and Ethan

Great post – good information, as always – great gig to be taken around Kelowna. Been there with Catherine Frechette and the Okanagan Food and Wine Writer’s Conference. Phenomenal.
