FBC Weekly News - Cupcakes!
These cupcakes from the incomparable Movita Beaucoup are way too pretty to eat. Well, ok... we'd still eat them but... wow!

We hope you all had a wonderful first weekend of summer with lots of sun, sand, water, bbqs, farmer's markets, patios and s'mores!

Members Only Opps

We've got lots for you this week so let's start with some great Member's Only Opps.  We have three running right now with more Members Only goodies on the way very soon! (just a reminder - you need to be logged in to view any of the MO opps)

Around The Canadian Table

In celebration of Food Day Canada on August 2nd, Around the Canadian Table, Jackson Triggs and Les Marmitons have offered up a pair of tickets (a $350 value) to Around the Canadian Table 2014 - a night of food, wine, conversation and music as part of the Jackson Triggs Niagara Summer Concert Series at the Estate Amphitheatre, Niagara-on-the-Lake.  The list of chefs supporting the event is impressive!  To find out more about the event and how to win tickets, visit the ACT offer. (deadline to enter extended)

Rio Mare Tuna Sampling Program (Quebec Only)

The #1 tuna in Europe has opened up a small sampling program for both French and English bloggers in Quebec.  Rio Mare tuna from Sofina Foods is looking for 15 bloggers to sample the product (they'll send it to you along with some other Rio Mare goodies, of course!) and share their findings with their findings with their readers.  If you're interested, visit the Rio Mare offer.

Nairn's Oat Crackers and Cookies Sampling Program (BC and ON)

Nairn's is looking for 15 bloggers (10 in ON and 5 in BC) to sample their entire line of seven flavours of crackers and cookies (made from wheat free recipes and whole grain oats) in return for a product review on your blog.  If you'd like to try these tasty treats and write about them, visit the Nairn post and the Nairn Members Only offer details.

Canada's New Anti-Spam Legislation

If you haven't heard, Canada is enacting new anti-spam legislation on July 1st.  If you are a blogger who has a newsletter that you send out to fans, there is a very high possibility that this legislation pertains to you.  You may be required to ask all of the recipients to your newsletter to re-confirm their subscription and you will need to ask all new subscribers going forward if they would like to subscribe (it must be opt-in, not opt-out).  There are other pieces you will need to enact as well.  As best we can tell, this does not apply to RSS subscribers.  We have more information on our Facebook page as well as a lengthy membership discussion in our Facebook Members Only Forum group.

Speaking of which, we will be asking all of you to re-subscribe to our FBC Newsletter in the coming week.  Please make sure you do - it's the only way to still have access to some of our special offers that are only available in our newsletters, not to mention, keep up with all things FBC related!

Our FBC Members Facebook Forum

If you have not joined our FBC Facebook Members Only Forum group yet, you may want to check it out.  With over 180 active members on there, we've been hashing out some big topics this week including:

  • Canada's anti-spam legislation coming into effect next week and how it affects bloggers (you bet it does!)
  • Photographer's rights when shooting in public/private spaces
  • Accountant reccomendations
  • Chat about Foodily as a traffic generator as well as other food type sites
  • some advice from PR people on what they're looking for on your blog before they contact you
  • much, much more!

Members only posts are only available if you are logged in to the site. We don’t want them visible to the general public. We’ve had some entries so I know it works! 🙂
