The BIG News - Food Bloggers of Canada Conference 2013

We've been teasing you all week that we had a big announcement coming and we sure don't want to disappoint you or keep you waiting so... here you go!

We are extremely excited to finally be able to announce the very first Canadian Food Bloggers Conference!!

Mark your calendars for Food Bloggers of Canada 2013 to be held from April 12-14th, 2013,  at the gorgeous Hockley Valley Resort in Ontario.  That's right, the very same Hockley Valley Resort that was the location for the season finale of Top Chef Canada Season 2 last week!

Hockley Valley is located about an hour north west of Toronto and is a food lovers paradise that espouses local food. With a 4 acre on-site garden,  a 6 acre vineyard and a team of chefs that make the most of a garden on their doorstep - they deliver.  We can't wait!

We will have much more news regarding the conference in the weeks and months to come but we couldn't wait to share this event with all of you after so many questions about when we would finally have a Canadian conference to call our own.  And we wanted to give you all the opportunity to "save the date"!

We will be working to book speakers and sponsors over the next few months and to that end, we would love to hear what all of  you would like to see at a conference.  Our goal is to bring you informative topics and workshops where you will learn useful, practical information that you can immediately put into practice.  So please share with us in the comments what you would like to learn with us next year!  You can follow updates on our Twitter and Facebook feeds or look for the hashtag #fbc2013.

BC Fresh Recipe Challenge - BC Members

We are excited to be working with another great local food organization. BC Fresh, this month.  Tune in tomorrow as we announce the BC Fresh New Nugget Potato "Be Fresh" Recipe Challenge for our BC Members.  There are some great prizes up for grabs and you will get the opportunity to work with a variety of potato that is unique to BC!  You can follow BC Fresh on twitter and facebook and for our BC Members, be sure to tune in tomorrow for all the details!

Apron Strings - the Ties That Bind - Ontario Members

Again, in the spirit of local, we have another fun contest to share with our Ontario members just in time for Father's Day:  Apron Strings 2012 with Fiesta Farms.  Share your favourite memory or recipe of your dad or granddad cooking and you could win a Fiesta Farms gift certificate and have your story shared on their website.  For more, you can check out our post in the Members Opportunities section.

JustEat.ca - National Opportunity

Restaurant review bloggers - have you tried the just-eat.ca take out delivery service, available in most cities across the country?  Would you like to?  JustEat has an exclusive FBC opportunity available to 5 members who would like an opportunity to review the service.  You will receive a $50 voucher to use with any "local to you" restaurant that is part of the service and in return, we ask that you review the service (not the food - the service itself) on your blog.  If you're interested by sure to check out this Members Only post with all of the details (this is an FBC exclusive so you will need to log in first to read the post).  This is open to all members in Canada and if you are a restaurant review blogger this is a great opportunity for you to get involved with this company!

Food Photography Workshop - Vancouver  June 30th

A quick reminder to all our BC members that we still have some space left in both of our June 30th food photography workshops with Jackie Connelly.  This is a great opportunity to improve your food photography skills with hands on time and one on one time with one of BC's best professional food photographers.  Check out all the details here.

For organizing the first FoodCamp in Quebec city (about 300 people attended), I must say that people have really appreciated the demonstrations by the chefs. Peaople like to see how the chefs cook. For the next edition, many people asked me for some food photography workshop. Or any wine workshop in think should be welcome.

I’m looking foward to your event 🙂 Keep up the good work.

Yay!!! That *is* an exciting announcement! I will be there for sure, marking it on my calendar. Photography workshops would be awesome, so would having a professional food stylist talk. Very excited.

we’re not ready to announce pricing at this point but we can tell you the ticket price will include all accommodation, all food and all workshops/classes. Travel costs will not be covered. It will also be competitive with the US conferences. We are very aware that travel costs are pricier for Canadians than they are for Americans and so we are trying to ensure the ticket price is fair and good value.

So. Freakin’. EXCITED. I’ve already marked my calendar. 🙂

I’d love to see workshops on food photography and styling, writing, recipe development and basic coding/tech skills (though I know the last might be challenging, given that there are several different blog platforms around).

Wow. Having been one of three Canadians to attend this year’s Eat Write & Retreat Coference in Washington DC, I am so excited that we have one of our own. The inspiration and contacts that I made have proven invaluable and my blog is refreshed and focused as a result of my weekend. Count me in!
