Every week we pull together some great Canadian recipes from Canadian food bloggers around the web featuring one main ingredient or dish. This week we're celebrating the Caesar Salad with recipe ideas!
While the Caesar Salad may not have been the creation of a famous Roman emperor, it seems fitting to celebrate in a month that's named after Julius Caesar! And what the heck... keep on celebrating right into August so that the spirit of Augustus Caesar doesn't feel left out!
But no, the Caesar Salad was not named after either Roman emperor! It's believed to be the brainchild of Caesar Cardini, a restaurateur operating out of the southern United States and Mexico, who lays claim to the original Caesar salad in 1924. Since then the Caesar has seen many twists and turns and reincarnations but, it's still a staple on many a restaurant menu.
We've gathered up a collection of Caesar Salad recipes that range from the straight up Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad to Anchovy Ice Cream on Grilled Romaine to Caesar Salad on a Stick. And there's everything in between! And don't worry if you don't eat anchovies (which were not in the original Cardini version!) or if gluten isn't for you, there's lots of vegan Caesar Salad recipe ideas here as well some great gluten-free crouton options (even cauliflower croutons!)
However you like to enjoy this classic dinner salad, there's something there for you!
