Every week we pull together some great Canadian recipes from Canadian food bloggers around the web featuring one main ingredient or dish. This week it's a favourite summer time treat: milkshakes recipes!

We all love a cold hit of sweetness when summertime rolls around and what better way to beat the heat than with that classic soda fountain treat, the milkshake! So we're featuring six icy cold, creamy milkshake recipes this week to inspire you to whip up something delicious for dessert.
The hallmark of a milkshake is it has to be cold and it has to be thick and creamy. We're not talking about smoothies here (although we have lots of smoothie recipes too)- we want those straws to be standing up tall because that shake is so thick they can't slouch even a little bit!
Start with the best ice cream you can get your hands on - whether it's 100% Canadian milk or dairy-free. There's lots of great ice cream options out there these days for people who are lactose intolerant, have a dairy allergy or who follow a plant based diet so don't think you have to give up your favourite shake!
Don't forget to make the most of all our gorgeous Canadian summer fruits (cherries, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, etc) and add them in for a bigger boost of summer flavour.
You can go crazy with garnish and add-ins like whipped cream, cherries, toasted marshmallows, cookies, chocolates. Your imagination is your only limitation! But simple can be just as delicious - with top notch ice cream, milk and the sweet summer fruit of your choice, you can have a fabulous shake in minutes!
1. Sweet Cherry Vanilla Milkshake

Never underestimate the power, or flavour, of simplicity. This Sweet Cherry Vanilla Milkshake from The Unlikely Baker is a classic milkshake with three ingredients: cherries, ice cream and milk. A deliciously cold, sweet treat!
2. Reese Coffee Milkshake
If coffee, chocolate and peanut butter are your jam (haha) then you're going to love this decadent but oh so easy Reese Coffee Milkshake from Simply Stacie. It's made with chocolate ice cream, a little coffee and some Reese spread. You can get fancy and top it with whipped cream and some Reese Peanut Butter Cup chunks but either way, it's an indulgent cold treat!
3. PB & J Vegan Milkshake

Peanut butter is a common theme in milkshakes (because... peanut butter! We'd happily live on PB around here). But don't think milkshakes are a treat you have to give up if you're lactose intolerant, have a dairy allergy or you follow a plant based diet. There's lots of dairy free ice creams and milks available now that are so tasty. This PB & J Vegan Milkshake from The Nourished Mind makes use of Coconut Ice Cream and Almond Milk along with fresh strawberries, peanut butter and coconut whipped cream.
4. Bear Claw Chocolate Milkshake

This Bear Claw Chocolate Milkshake from Food Meanderings skyrocketed us right back to childhood. Using Cashew Milk instead of regular milk and adding caramel sundae sauce to the chocolate ice cream brings back the flavour combo of those childhood chocolate Bear Claw treats!
5. Toasted Marshmallow and Oreo Milkshake Freak Shake
by Carmy

Woah! That was our first reaction to Carmy's Toasted Marshmallow and Oreo Milkshake! She describes it as a combo of S'mores meets Cookies 'n' Cream! So basically, it combines ALL the good things in one. This is one indulgent milkshake - she goes all in with Double Stuff Oreos and Bourbon Vanilla Ice Cream. Yum!
6. Dairy Free Watermelon Milkshake
Watermelon is so refreshing in the summer and this Dairy Free Watermelon Milkshake from Limitless Allergies will hit the spot for everyone, not just those with a dairy allergy or who avoid dairy for other reasons. It will cool you right down!
